PM to open Power and Energy Week 2018 in city Thursday

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday will formally inaugurate the Power and Energy Week 2018 at a function at International Convention City, Bashundhara in Dhaka.

The Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry organised the three-day exhibition as part of the Power and Energy Week observance from September 6 to 8 across the country. This year’s event was named as ‘Anirban Agami’ (inextinguishable future).

Addressing a press conference at Biduyt Bhaban on the occasion, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said the government has increased the country’s power generation capacity to 20,000 MW in last 10 years from 4942 MW in 2009.

He said within only 10 years, this tremendous success is a rare achievement. It would be remembered through illuminating celebration during the power and energy week.

Joining the press conference Prime Minister’s Energy Advisor Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury said, “The main goal of the week is to highlight the government’s various activities, success and achievement in power and energy sector among people.”

He said around 20 foreign distinguished personalities including Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Ministers would join the power and energy week’s programmes this year.

It was informed that an elaborate programme was chalked out to observe the week. The 3-day power and energy fair will be held at the same venue of the Bhashundhara International Convention city where more than 100 public and private entities will showcase their products and services.

Four seminars will be held on different topics in three days to make interactions among the stakeholders in the sector.

In the inaugural function, officials of different public entities will be awarded for their best performances while journalists will also be given award for their best reporting.

The government has been observing such power and energy week in every September for the last few years as part of its development campaign.

Apart from this, four seminars will be held during the week to be participated by local and foreign experts.

Among others, Power Division Secretary Dr Ahmed Kaikaus, Energy and Mineral Resources Division Secretary Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem and Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) Chairman Major General Moin Uddin (Retd) also spoke at the conference.
